Do you have cool edit pro or cool edit 2000? The denoise routines are quite good. All you need is an isolated sample of silence that has the noise only.

however, the hum noise at the very beginning is quite different from the hum noise during the real "content"..

did you record this yourself?

Yes. I ripped it from VHS, however the hum is already on the tape (since it is a very poorly made copy), but it is not so apearant when i listen to it on my tv. Should I use shielded cables? If yes, how much do they cost?
