Please help, Sony NW-E405 support

Okay, I have recently bought a Sony NW-E405 Mp3 player.
The program it comes with, SonicStage will import Mp3 files to the device, however converts them into OMG format (which is still Mp3, but encoded and with lovely sony headers, and are only playable on the origional computer).

I am currently on the hunt for an alternative, preferably a way to just add the files as MP3, I have tryed just adding the files in MP3 form into the OMGAudio folder, but the device ust reads "No Data"

I really need a way to just use my MP3 player, which was advertised as suports Mp3's, to put files on in Mp3 format, but an alertnative small program which can be used to convert either way and make playable would be great also...

Please help

Ian

I am curious if there's a solution. Some of the former Sony models (like NW-E95) support this. You can drag and drop mp3 files into a subfolder of the player and it works. Read for instance: this link. I think a similar strategy should also work with newer NW-E40X/NW-E50X models. If not I am sure there's no other way but to use SonicStage. If you go and read user reviews on c|Net and Amazon.com you'll see many people complaining about this.

Yeah, I think its kind of poor, it claims to have Mp3 support, yet you can't just drag-and-drop transfer

Maybe it does support drag & drop. Did you try what I said?

Yes the program couldn't find the disk (and yes, I did install the driver too)

Google dosen't seem to be throughing up much in the way of drag-and-drop programs, and those that do exist arn't for my model, and dont work

Do you see your portable audio player as a removable media under Windows? The answer to this question affects everything. You wrote earlier that there's an OMGAudio folder. Is that on the portable player? If so you already have access to the player -> if you can find the right folder to transfer your files it could work.

Yeah, it is a removable drive. I have tryed just popping the Mp3's in all of the folders on that drive, but none have worked, The OMGAudio is indeed on the drive.

Googling dosen't appear to through up any ideas as to this folder. Sony say that it must be encripted into OMGAudio to be played by the player, but that Mp3's in the folder will only work for storage (will remain non-playable).

Is anyone aware of any alternative program to SonicStage to create OMG's and add them to the sony filesystem?
