how could i demux video from mp4?

Well, I am using nero digital to create MPEG4/AVC videos, and the output format is mp4. The audio is AAC, but I would like to preserve the original AC3, and I can't use mp4 becouse it doesn't admint this format, only AAC.

So I would like to demux video and mux it in other container such as avi with the AC3 audio.

Is there any method to do this?.

thank for your help.

you can use matroska

use mkvtoolnix to mux mp4 and ac3 together.

Well, matroska is an option, but if i am not wrong first i must extract de video stream from the mp4 container to use it in the mkv, or could i use mkvtools to pass directly from mp4 to mkv?.

Thanks.

You can use mkvmerge-gui from the mkvtoolnix to pass directly from mp4 to mkv, without the need of extracting the video stream first.

In fact, the only way to mux AVC in Matroska is from a mp4 source (or an MKV source of course). MKVtoolnix doesnt handle raw AVC streams.

Well, I don't know that I could mux the video directly to the mkv from the mp4 container, I'll try it.

But I would like to know if there is any method to exctract the video stream to avi for example, becouse with the mkvtoolnix by the moment it is not posible to demux the H.264 that is created with nero digital, althugh it 's posible if the video is coded using x264 for example.

So If someone knows how to demux the mp4 to an avi it would be great.

Thanks for your help.

But there are applications which demux from matroska to raw streams and applications which mux raw streams to mp4.

of course its possible to do an avc .mp4 -> .avi conversion without the need for matroska...

you need only one tool for that: mp4box

use the following commandline:
Code: [Select]
mp4box -avi 3 input.mp4
after that change the fourcc to something like "h264" or "avc1"

than there would also be the possibility to demux the avc stream from .mp4 to raw with either mp4box or mp4creator and than mux the raw stream to .avi with the avc2avi tool

if you are able to demux raw avc from matroska you could also do a mkv -> mp4 conversion

@bond
Its possible with x264.mp4 but will this produce a playable avi-file from nero-avc? with the right b-frame order?

right b-frame order in .avi? are you joking? avi has no clue about b-frames

i would say try it. but dont forget to change the fourcc to something h264 like cause mp4box will set it to DIVX or so i think
