audiophile 2496 problems with my new motherboard

Hello guys!

I'd be superhappy if you could maybe help me with a little issue I have, I heard you got a lot of know-how and stuff...
I have a audiophile 2496 installed since some time back but since I changed my motherboard the bloody thing refuses to work properly. The new board I have is an Asus A7V8X-X. From the beginning there was no sound at all. Apparently there was some internal soundstuff that came with the asus called "sound max" which I had to uninstall. Then I reinstalled the audiophile drivers and even updated the bios but things still won't work out properly for me. The damn thing shuts down when I'm workin with cubase, and sometimes when just listening to music. It's horrible.
I also got the tip from the guy in the computerstore to change the soundcard's slotplacing on the motherboard but that didn't work either.
What can I do? I'd be superhappy for some help!

Thanks
/H

You did disable the onboard sound in your BIOS, didn't you? Just uninstalling it in device manager is probably not enough.
I had a similar problem with a Terratec sound card which froze my system. I tried everything, but without success. I finally returned the card and am still too cowardly to try another, because these system freezes were really wrecking my nerves
If you succeed in making it work, tell me how you did it

Looks like PCI slot 3 is your best bet. Count the slots starting with 1 next to the AGP slot.

The manual doesn't show any jumpers related to audio so that just leaves the BIOS.

Onboard AC 97 audio, disabled.

Edit:

VIA chipsets have been known to be a little picky with IRQ sharing.
I am running a 2496 on a KT333. It works fine.
Just make sure you have installed the latest VIA chipset drivers. They help a lot.

Not strictly offering a solution, but I use a Shuttle SFF box with an Intel i865G chipset that has the wonderful on-board Realtec AL650 codec!! In the single PCI slot I have a 2496. I am able to use both and switch between them with no problems whatsoever. The significant factor is, I think, that they use different IRQs; the Realtec uses 17 and the M-Audio uses 19.

Why would I want to do that? Just to able to use the front audio connectors for specific purposes when it suits.

You have to get the latest so-called Via 4in1 drivers. Usually you can download them from the manufacturer of your mainboard or directly at Via's site.

They're called "Hyperion" now, and they're available here.

It's a must for anyone with a VIA chipset. It works with all VIA chipsets. Even ancient ones.

Yeah! the VIA thing worked! Thanks soo much to you guys! You can't imagen how much headache I've had over this issue that's been buggin me for two months and disabled me from my hobby. I dunno how to thank you enough. If I was a girl I'd offer you somekind of sexual services and if I was rich I'd give you money or something. But the truth to tell I'm just a poor swedish student so I can't give you anything except a big THANK YOU! I hope you get a great and joyful life.

Glad to help.

Actually, I wasn't aware that not installing the VIA chipset drivers could be problematic. I've always just done it, since I figured it would be a Good Thing to do.

Anyways, good to hear you've worked it out. Few things are as frustrating as a malfunctioning computer.
