mp3 tag program for custom fields?

I don't want this to explode into a "best mp3 tagging program" thread, I just need to know if there's a tagging program that can edit custom tags (such as ALBUM ARTIST, etc.)

You can use foobar2000's masstagger for this or Mp3tag which allows to edit custom fields via the extended tag dialog at "View, Tags..." or via direct editing in the file list.

I'm trying to avoid using fb2k because I have some info in my fb2k database that I don't want written to my files.  But thanks for the tip about mp3tag...I've tried it before but never noticed that feature.

You can create columns for the custom tags using the "View, Columns..." dialog. This way the custom tags are displayed in Mp3tag's file view and you can edit them like you rename a file in Windows Explorer.

The configuration should be very straight-forward for a foobar2000 user, because Mp3tag uses almost the same notation for placeholders (like %album artist% and so on).

I gotta tell ya, I am having a hard time with mp3tag.  I'm looking at a whole directory of mp3s, mp3s that show both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags in Winamp, and yet I see nothing in these columns.  What could I possibly be doing wrong?

This can be caused by an almost empty APEv2 tag (only consisting of ReplayGain data) added by MP3Gain. Simply disable APEv2 reading at "Options, Tags, Mpeg".

Please also have a look at the [a href="http://www.anytag.de/forums]Mp3tag Forums[/url]

Well, since I'm unable to post anything to that forum (even after registering), can you please take a look at this thread and perhaps elaborate on it for me?:

This seems like the problem I'm having.  I disabled APEv2 reading, but still got the same problem.

Seems like you did not get any confimation mail yet or provided an invalid email adress while registering. I've approved your account and you should be able to post on the forums now.

Regarding your problem: if your ID3v2 tags are all stored as UTF16, Mp3tag won't read them, because there is no Unicode support (yet).

That probably is the issue.  Thanks for all your help.
