That would indeed be very cool if something like that were to exist.  It would be a great, free option for karaoke people.

Basically, you need a plugin to check if there is a graphics file available with the same base filename as the MP3/whatever, i.e. Blue Moon.mp3 has graphics in Blue Moon.cdg

Then it's a matter of decoding the file, with a simple set of instructions.  Winamp has had a very effective plugin like this for a long time.

Sorry to bump this, but does a component that removes vocals (like the karaoke function in some stereos) exist?

You could try foo_dsp_centercut, which enables not only removal but also isolation of the center channel (i.e. processing the input signal to sides or centre). Obviously, no plugin of this type is ever going to be perfect, but I thought this one was pretty great! (Hence why I recommend it at every opportunity. )

This is soooo good. It really helps me do my tablatures as I can really isolate instruments that are hard panned. The center-only feature is really cool to hear vocals too!
