iTunes Metadata in WAV and AIFF Files

I have long been able to add metadata to MP3 files that will show up in iTunes, but I now have a need to do the same with WAV or AIFF files. The same data entered in the same metadata fields in Adobe Audition does not whow up in WAV files, but appears just fine in MP3 files.

Is there a different tool or technique I need to be using to get metadata to show up in iTunes with either of these file formats?

iTunes doesn't support metadata for WAV and AIFF files. So, no, you can't do it. Any data you enter into iTunes for a WAV file goes into iTunes' database and not into the file itself.

Interesting...I am trying to respond to a request for film music that stated that the "Ideal method to submit will be in wav or aiff files on a clearly marked data CD with metadata including track title, artist, and contact information that will appear in itunes." It now appears that what they're asking for can't be delivered. Do you agree with that assessment?

Thanks,

Ahh, no, I'm sorry. I appear to be incorrect. iTunes does appear to support metadata in AIFF files. I do not know what the format is there, but some testing might reveal that.

It definitely does not support metadata in WAV files though.

Hey I am in the same boat!
I make sound FX and music cues for various trailer houses.
I am getting ready to send out a new volume of music and sound FX.
I need to make it so when my files are viewed in "preview mode" one can see metadata info: artist, album & time.
After googling and browsing endless forums, I keep reading that .aif files do not support metadata.
My question is, how did somebody do this then:

FYI- that .aif was not tagged in my iTunes.  I imported it from a DVD to my computer.

Please help!

AIFF and WAV support tagging, I haven't tested more than a couple of time and for what I understand WAV only with few compatible software, not all of them. foobar2000 read/writes both formats.

...and for iTunes, they probably updated the tagging compatibility since the last post from 10 years ago you replied to.
