Checksum tools

What are your favourite/recommended checksum calculating
and checking utilities? I was quite content with Easy MD5 and
SFV Creator, and even more with hkSFV, but both have a nasty
tendency towards crashing, at least on my PC.

Wanted features are:

* MD5 & SFV support
* Shell integration
* Drag-n-drop
* Actual saving to .md5 and/or .sfv files, not only calculation
* Easy checking
* Freeware (if possible)

My main use for checksums is of course for checking the integrity of
data on CD-Rs, so checksum calculation must not take file path in
consideration (I found this one tool that would use the path in order
to calculate a checksum, which is pretty useless if you burn your files
to CD-R). Plus calculation must be based on all selected files, not only
a portion. IIRC, I used hkSFV on  hunderds of jpegs, but checking the
checksum file revealed that only a few of those files where actually
used in the calculation.

Thanx!

There used to be a tool called "Brad Smith's Easy MD5 Creator". It was really good. All of a sudden, the website simply disappeared!! The worst part is, I have a bunch of MD5s created using this utility and I don't have a copy of the program!! I am hence stuck with a bunch of useless MD5 files!! Anyone knows where I can download it? Thanks!!

I already mentioned that one.

Another handy feature is automatic detection of renamed files,
in case they are truncated when burning to CD-R.

I often use this: http://www.quicksfv.org/

Fast & easy. Sadly no MD5 support.

Update: QuickSFV now has MD5 support. It's more ergonomical than Easy MD5 creator, thanks to shell integration.

If you are not afraid of the commandline, nothing beats fsum:

Hi guys.

I'm the developer of Easy SFV Creator and Easy MD5 Creator. My new web site is www.nadolaboratories.com.

I am in the process of creating Hash Creator which will be include command line support, true shell integration, drag and drop as well as a all new GUI. Will put all other checksum tools in the grave.

I welcome any suggestions or ideas. Can e-mail me at brad at nadolaboratories.com

Thanks for using my program.
