Vinyl Ac'97 Codec Comco Driver WDM on A ECS L7MM3

hey hows it going hopefully some one out there can help me fix this problem i'm having.

I have ECS L7VMM3 (pro2300+)
chipset : Via KM266 +8235

With onboard sound from the Vinyl Ac'97.

Now this is the problem the sound card shows up in Winxp pro everything is fine except for the sound.  Its there except you can barley hear it.

Its at full volume and its coming out really soft. evryhting is jack up for sound to be loud. but you can hear anything unless you put your ears right up the speakers...i don't understand whats wrong

Can anyone help me?

we'll need a little more info than that.

what speakers, how are they connected, is the plug hanging out, etc etc etc.

when you do hear anything, is it very coarse and grainy, or it it just very quiet?

knowing winXP pro it's probably one of those ghastly "usability" features that make it harder to work on it.

plug in some headphones and see if the problem is still there (WARNING!  turn the volume right down before you do this, or you may get a nasty surprise and a damaged ear)

mmm maybe u need an amplifier between your turntable and your soundcard. I own the KM266 and i've never heard of a jack to connect directly a turntable. You need some RIAA amp i think.

I would guess that you are trying to use passive (non-amplified) speakers with what is essentially a line out. Old sound cards (of AWE64 vintage and before) had built in 3 or 5 Watt amplifiers which could drive a set of passive speakers. On most new cards, however, the 'speaker out' puts out a line level which is not capable of driving speakers (except very quietly). In other words - you need new speakers.

You should also use VIA's drivers (viaarena.com has them) rather than those from your motherboard manufacturer.

I think you misunderstood. The poster was talking about VIA's Vinyl Audio Codec - a fairly competent AC'97 implementation - not about an actual player of LPs.

Well i know for a fact that the speakers are working.....since then i have installed the C-media card CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device) and the sound works just fine except for the lock ups....For some reason that card locks up my system completetly....I've tried switching the pci slots but still the same problem....
The lock up occur when ever...it doesn't matter what i'm doing.

But sound come out just great.
But with the Onboard one the sound comes out with no bass at all just highs....And very quiet....?
