Nero and Joliet mode

Anyone have any idea why I can't burn Joliet with Nero? it just sets it back to iso.

joliet is just an microsoft extention to ISO 9660. so as long as you check joliet it will burn the joliet information.

yes but then I set Joliet it sets it back and I get a warning when burning the cd.

I had exactly this strange problem long time back. I re-installed the latest version of Nero and everything was fine.

huh?
it behaves quite different now.
but still......
edit->proporties->label->
I set joilet.
I close the window and go back.
it is set back to iso.

everything else seems to work but this worries me and in the final burning dialog it says "ISO".

Right-clic your drive in Windows Explorer and see the volumes. It is written which ones are Iso and which ones are Iso/Joliet.

Nero disc info says:
ISO 9660 / Joilet  (mode 1)


so I guess it's ok, right?

Also, I believe that pure ISO only supports 8.3 filenames. If you have any filenames that show up on your CD with more than 8 letters, then you've got Joliet extensions.

That's what I was about to say first, but with all those "allow more than 255 characters in the path"; "allow pathdepht of more than 8 directories", "level 2 max of 31 chars..." options in Nero, I was not sure.

Ah, yes, I see : When you go to Edit/properties/label, you can switch between two windows : ISO and Joliet (provided you astutely unckecked the dumb "also use ISO for Joliet").
Both Iso and Joliet titles must be written on the CD. Joliet will be read by Windows, and Iso by DOS/Windows3/other OS.
When you quit and go back, the displayed part is always ISO, but there is still the Joliet one behind. It's not erased.
