AC3 2.0 or MP2 for stereo source. What better?

Hi folk!
I want transcode my music collection (MP3 and OGG files) to DVD with only audio track (video blank). I will be make PAL DVD and i can choose between MP2 or AC3 2.0 (LPCM require more disk place). What better for stereo source AC3 or MP2? Bitrate no problem even with 448kb/s can make disk with more than 20 hours music.
with kind regards yup.

Interesting question indeed. I wonder why DVD Video did not support AAC.

If bitrate is not the issue, I think you should consider DTS too.

When standardization started (mid-nineties), AAC was too CPU-intensive.

And DTS is only used for multichannel in DVD, so it's of no use for him.

About AC3 vs. MP2: Both probably sound good enough at bitrates around 256kbps stereo. MP2 has the added advantage of having a free good-quality implementation (tooLame). The free AC3 implementation outputs terrible quality, and AC3 software encoders tend to be very expensive.

rjamorim thanx for reply.
I use for authoring DVD Adobe Encore which include AC3 encoder. Now question about bitrate. How choose for transcoding. I know that AC3 have more compression ability than MP3, but MP2 less. How bitrate AC3 enough for transcoding MP3 320kb/s CBR and MP2 also?
with kind regards yup.

You should test that for yourself and see what is of good quality to you.

Encode some tracks at a starting bitrate (I suggest 192kbps on both formats) and listen to them. If quality is OK for you, settle with it. If not, start raising bitrate (224, 256, 320...) until you find a bitrate that pleases you.
