XviD 1.0.0 final released
The development team is happy to announce the immediate availability of XviD 1.0.0 release. Though this version number is purely symbolic, it's still an important step, and the "xvid-team" hopes you'll enjoy all the efforts that have been put in this 1.0 numbered version. Thanks to all users who: reported bugs, sent patches and helped us improve XviD up to an 1.0 quality level. Happy encoding and stay tuned for improvements in upcoming releases.
Changes since 1.0.0 RC4 (Hola):

    * xvidcore:
          o minor bug in trellis quantification optimization
          o speedup for vhq>1 & qpel modes (motion search was done twice, one in SAD mode and one in RD mode)
          o Fixed MV clipping with non valid DivX 5 based sequences
          o Fixed RGB 16 bit C functions.
          o Fixed posible VOL header corruption for fps=1 encodes.
          o DC misprediction caused by bad value clipping (bug forwarded to the ffmpeg project too).

    * VFW fontend:
          o Fixed mismatching of hints<->widgets

    * DShow decoder frontend:
          o none

You can read a more detailed description of the changes in the ChangeLog file available in the top directory of the inflated sources tarball.

are there any mirrors of koepi's compile? koepi's is the recommended win32 binary, right? or is nic's? maybe it doesn't matter...

Well, look at the good side.

They are being slashdotted. That minimalist page (80 bytes!) will save them lots of bandwidth

It is a shame some smuck has to take down the site to bring attention to himself.  Whoever that guy is; shame on him!  Anyway just to give the heads up, you can look for some pretty cool things in post 1.0 builds .

2004/05/17 -- XVID site cracked. Unfortunately, right after we released the long-awaited XviD 1.0 final, the XviD web server got cracked and many files were deleted. Whoever did this, we actually don't find this funny at all. We're currently working hard to recover from this attack. However it will take us (at least) a couple of days to be back. Meanwhile, we've mirrored the 1.0 final announcement below and you can still download all the XviD 1.0 final source code packages from the files section at the bottom of this page.
We're very sorry for this inconvenience!

The XVID team

Unfortunatelly, they didn't just deface it. These script kiddies must think it's l33t deleting files of an open-source project like XviD.

What a losers...

Perhaps it was a DivX-developer who hacked it!

It's very sad that the XviD has been cracked. XviD is an open-source and volunteer based project, with no profitable goals. I can't understand why some one thinks doing this kind of mess. Go deface greedy companies sites but not free software.

Perhaps the greedy companies are hacking the Xvid site.

Why? Is there a why in pure vandalism? Beyond the joy (?) of destroying something, make some noise, and be noticed by your peers?
No need to rationalize it, it's irrational. Just some kiddies wanna smash stuff up. Preferably the result of somebody elses hard & honest work....

TINAT (This is not a Troll): Will we EVER see a binary version of Xvid? Of course I know about unofficial builds blah blah blah but I think Xvid will always be underground if they can never release binaries on their website. Then again, maybe it would be better or they want it that way?

a lot of ppl use xvid these days, in terms of reputation and spread of knowledge about the codec, the project is not underground at all.
futhermore, as long as Koepi belongs to the scene (and we had more or less well founded rumours of him leaving for good at least two times (at IRC)) binaries will always be readily available at his site...
so I don't realy see a problem here.

XviD 1.0.1 bugfix release:

Quote
We are happy to announce a new release. This one is a bugfix release only.
It is source and binary compatible with the previous version. You are
strongly encouraged to use this new version.

Changes since 1.0.0 final:

* xvidcore
- DC misprediction caused by missing value clipping (this one for real).
- Fixed bugs triggered by 1fps sequences in decoder.
- Fixed bug in trellis that was causing block skipping in later stages.
- Fixed some ME buglet that could cause suboptimal results for bframes.

* VFW frontend
- Fixed error in bitrate calc when given bitrate and size (2.4%).
- Added ICM compatibility for Office Suites (OpenOffice.org, MS Office...).
- Added more known audio filetypes.

* Debian dir
- removed from the release tarball in an effort to get the package
  into SID as a non native package.

The files are available in the download section of XviD.org:
