Pink Floyd "Animals" remaster

I have the original 1985 release of Animals on CD, and I'm wondering if the remastered version is worth purchasing.  Has anyone done a comparison of the two?
It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean it is.  If you don't, it's its.

Your best bet is to get ahold of the Animals disc from the 1992 Shine On box set. The currently available Animals disc claims to be from the 1992 remasters, but it's not the same, as the peak volume levels have been raised to 100% (no surprise there) and the track lengths vary by a couple/few seconds. If you can't locate a copy of the 1992 Shine On release, I would still rate the currently available release as better than the 1985 release. Being the Floyd nut that I am, I've got all three releases.

Shine On is unbeatable!

(the 1992 version, of course)

Just like to add that the 1994 releases are identical to the 1992 box set releases.

Er, nope. I've got both the 1992 Animals [Shine On] release and the 1994 Animals release and they are not the same.

1992 Animals [Shine On] -

01 Pigs on the Wing 1 - 1:24 - Peak level 39.6%
02 Dogs - 17:04 - Peak level 100.0%
03 Pigs (Three Different Ones) - 11:26 - Peak level 87.6%
04 Sheep - 10:18 - Peak level 91.4%
05 Pigs on the Wing 2 - 1:25 - Peak level 31.7%

1994 Animals -

01 Pigs on the Wing 1 - 1:25 - Peak level 53.8%
02 Dogs - 17:08 - Peak level 100.0%
03 Pigs (Three Different Ones) - 11:28 - Peak level 100.0%
04 Sheep - 10:20 - Peak level 100.0%
05 Pigs on the Wing 2 - 1:25 - Peak level 56.7%

Info is from EAC rips on same drive (Plextor PX-504A) on same day and with WAVs reported as identical to those ripped with PlexTools Pro for good measure.

Jay

IIRC, them being the same is related to having used the same remastered master.  The mix is the same.

Pigs, since you have the old release as well, how would you compare the sound to either new release?

I also find it interesting that the peak levels for the tracks on the 1985 release are so different (even relative to each other):

1985 Animals -

01 Pigs on the Wing 1 - 1:25 - Peak level 60.2%
02 Dogs - 17:06 - Peak level 80.4%
03 Pigs (Three Different Ones) - 11:31 - Peak level 71.4%
04 Sheep - 10:19 - Peak level 74.6%
05 Pigs on the Wing 2 - 1:28 - Peak level 41.9%

Give me a couple/few days and I will set aside some time to give a critical listen to all three releases back to back to back with my high-end headphones.

The 1985 peak levels don't really look out of line when compared to the 1992 levels. It's clear that the 1994 levels have been pushed to 100.0% for all but Pigs on the Wing 1 and 2 and that 2 has been made louder than 1 whereas it's quieter than 1 on both the 1985 release and the 1992 release.
