gday...

HE - AAC.

if it don`t work for you.. i suggest
looking at ogg or mp3pro.

in the days mp3pro was new..
ogg did bypass mp3pro..

i haven`t tried out the latest pro v.
but last time i checked.. ogg had bells
beneath 96. so try mp3pro instead..

HE - AAC.. Mp3pro.. Ogg Vorbis.

ps. roberto`s 64 test.. shows the same..

At the moment, HE-AAC is considered the best quality option for 64 kbps. Vorbis is also a very good option.

However, i don't know many players for PDA that can actually play it.

You need to tell us which formats your PDA supports before any of us can give you a definative answer as to what format you should be using.  Most PDAs don't support MP3Pro, HE-AAC or Ogg Vorbis.

If you have to stick with MP3, Fraunhoffer. It's much better than Lame at low bitrates.

I don't know about 64kbps, but this has definately been proven incorrect for 128kbps. Check these results.

For 64kbps, FhG is indeed theoretically better than Lame, because it implements IS coding.

Ogg can be played on pocketpc with PocketMVP for years.
Last I heard that faad support was planned to be implemented in PocketMVP, theoretically making it possible to listen to HE-AAC somewhere in the future.
