real time audio compression

hi there. i'm a student, and looking for a prog. that will alloe me to recored lectures into my leptop (cant type fast enough). i'm looking for an audio real time compression prog. . do u know any???
if yes - what kind of a mic. i need ex.

About mics I don't know.
But a great program to record and encode on-the-fly (all modern codecs encode faster than real time, so it does not really matter what you choose) would be foobar2000 with the foo_record component available at Case's site. You also need the CLI encoder also available there and the correspondent codec.

Go to the foobar forums (hosted here at HA) to learn to set it up or ask me personally.

Edit: Download the Special Installer on Case's site. Should have everything you need (except for the codec)

You can recode to many format including vorbis realtime and It's very easy to use.
