Does this version allow you to see people using WinMX 2.6? The beta version of WinMX 3.0 only allowed you to see people who had the beta installed and was using it. Someone please clarify I don't want to install it cause if you do you lose your database of incomplete downloads. Thanks in advance!!

How is the newly designed interface of 3.x? The previous one completely sucked and took lots of cpu cycles to calculate/draw the stupid fancy looking 3d windowing system. It took lots of time to move the window around and the redraws of the windows were usually incorrect and overlapping.  The sharing was perfect, but I haven't seen a worse interface. Darn, I don't even need an interface it could even be text based. Oh, what a nightmare it was.

fancy 3d windowing system?  what fancy 3d windowing system?  are you talking about your standard Microsoft Windows 1 or 2 line shadow effect on the buttons and windows, which every window and button IN Windows uses.

if anything, i'd call that a basic 3d windowing system.

p.s. the design is fine.

Yes I was talking about 2.6. The application actually has two windows 1) The one you write the search string(the on on top in xy plane) 2) The one that search results appear. The one at the top looks kind of at a higher level (in z direction, that's why I said 3D). To redraw them every time you move the window kills even my 1.4 Ghz Athlon. And most of the redraws put those two windows on top of each other so that you can't access the search results because window 1 blocks window 2. So you move it around again. Oh how excruciating.

that's funny, cause it doesnt kill my 533ghz Athlon K-6.  It does flickers a tid bit when i resize the window, but thats it.  It's still speedy and isn't slow to react or anything.

I downloaded it and am running it now.
It no longer has 2 separate window system which is great. It's simple and efficient without unneccesarry windowing complexity. NapMX 2.1 did its job perfectly. I'm connected to almost 20 networks, which is quite unbelievable. Maybe the NapMX server list is updated but so far with WinMX 2.6 and corresponding NapMX I could connect to 6 OpenNap networks (out of so many). However I don't see separate ogg support  Could it share files with WinMX 2.x users? I guess yes! I saw someone sharing a file with WinMX version 2.6.
Lovely.

i'm thinkin the napmx server list (napigator server list) is out of date myself, cause i can only connect to about 6 servers max as well.

You can share Ogg. I presume people just search for .ogg as its true there is no search option for them directly

Sorry people, rc55 is right.  If I had noticed this discussion sooner (busy with finals atm), I would have stopped it earlier.  No discussion of sharing copyrighted material, how or where to get it, etc.  If I see anything like this it will be edited out on sight.  Continuing to do this will lead to account removal.  Sorry, but this board isn't about piracy and I can't afford to let discussions slowly drift in that direction either.

As far as I'm concerned, WinMX is interesting for the ability to share non-copyrighted music in an easy and organized manner.  That's it.

The ability to download the same file from multiple sources simultaneously is a huge new feature for WinMX. Morpheus has supported this feature in the past but WinMX's implementation is superior. I think WinMX's popularity will grow significantly with this new release.

btw wanted to say this:
this prog has a cool feature: it can also download from parts. this means, if a user has the middle part of a file, another has the last part, and another has the first, but noone has it all, the donkey wil download the parts and put them togheter.
Also, the donkey will recognize files which are the same, even if they have been renamed!!! so, sometimes u see in Kazaa a file which fits what u are searching for, but it has only 1 user, and another file, same size, same name, but [1] attached, you can't use them optimal - donwloading the same file from those 2 users, because Kazaa doesnt recognize they are the same. that donkey does!!!

hehe and of course: its only intended to donwload legal stuff. of course.

that's actually quite likely - when doing segmented / multi-source downloading, almost all programs get the beginning of the file from one user, the middle from another one, the end from a third... you get the idea. Kazaa/Morpheus (at least earlier versions) do that as well.. maybe winmx too..
