iRiver IHP-120 battery.

Hi,
I am definitely going to buy an iRiver IHP-120 within a month, as soon as this query is answered. I am worried about the player's battery. Is it a proprietary iRiver battery that will turn the player into a paperweight within a year? Or can I replace the battery and enjoy years of trouble-free usage. Please let me know. Thanks.

The only thing I know :

You can't replace the battery by yourself.

Thanks. But is the battery generic (enough) that it will be available say 5 years from now, even if the player itself is obsolete?

Hi Folks,

you can replace the Battery and harddisc too.

See website:

http://www.ihplounge.com

or

http://www.iriverlounge.com

(both sites are under construction and will be updated soon)

The polymer battery is manufacured by SAMSUNG SDI.
http://www.samsungsdi.co.kr/sdi_en/product..._mod_pol05.html?

You need an Torx 5 screwdriver to open the chrom top/bottom covers and remove
the sided two screws. The battery is fixed with two small double-sided adhesive
tape stripes at the magnesium-backcase.

To replace the harddisc in an iHP-120 only 1.8" disc that are 5mm high fit in
the case. Toshibas 40GB drive is 8mm high. (used in the new iHP-140).

This is great news!!
Is the battery available for purchase in the USA? It looks like Samsung is the only manufacturer of this battery. Is there any other brand which produces batteries of identical specifications that can be used in an IHP-120? The reason I ask is that I do not want to be left in a lurch if Samsung decides to discontinue production of this battery. Thanks a lot anyway. Please answer my questions as soon as possible.

Hi,

the lipo (lithium polymer) battery, builtin the ihp, isn't available
for purchase in US nor in Europe.

Maybe the lipos builtin the Compaq iPaqs and Apples iPods locks
nearly same size. I will lookup for technical data of these batteries.

cheers

Thanks for all the help Buckaroo Banzai. The problem is that this player will be used in India where the battery replcement will become a major problem if the batteries are not available. I am thinking of buying a Creative Zen Xtra. What about the battery in this machine? Is it generic? I know that the battery has a Creative logo on it. Does someone else make identical batteries? Thanks.

After thinking for a looong time (about 6 months), I finally placed an order for my first ever hardware MP3 player of any kind!!
I decided not to buy the iRiver IHP-120 for one reason-the non-replaceable battery. I could've replaced the battery myself-I'm no chicken when it comes to opening my gadgets. But the battery itself is not available anywhere in the US. In view of all these things, I placed an order for a Creative Zen Xtra-30GB. I will wait for it to arrive and let you guys know how it is. Thanks for everything. Bye.

Hi folks,
just to say I've seen on a french board that iriver battery replacement policy was:
- free under warranty
- 15€ only after warranty time...
hope this could help...
Bye!
