As for those recommending matroska, AFAIK it's currently strongly disrecommended because it can't deal correctly with HE-AAC, but maybe someone that's better informed can comment.

OK, I tried it using foo_neromp4 and got the following error:

ICYDK...DVD Decryptor does a fabulous job concerning the extraction***. Lets you selectively rip just the audio, or the video, and just specific chapters.

No,matroska works perfectly with HE-AAC files. All you have to do is to install latest CoreAAC filter and to check the box "SBR AAC/AAC+/HE-AAC" in mkvmerge when you mux your video and audio streams.
