Just tried on a small mpc file, WinXPSP1 and mplayer2.exe (  ) and it works reat. No tags it seems, but music is here. Thank you ! I saw a lot of people who asked to reencode mpc in m3 just in order to stay with WMP9.
Great thing, really (SV8, and the DS filtter promised for this streamversion, is a bit long to come).

I'll check that today on an old machine and possibly update a fixed version if there's something wrong...

RadScorpion > with this directshow filter, is it possible to expect some tools for muxing mpc file into avi, ogm, mka contenair ?
It would be nice : mpc at --radio profile is very strong, maybe the better codec at ~130 kbps, according to Roberto's test. And with a movie, --radio encoding are not near 130 kbps, but are close to 100 kbps, which isn't too big, especially for the high quality obtained. What do you think ?

Thanks for the DirectShow Filter

It works with the default Media player from Windows 2000.

It also worked with Winamp 2.95 (not that it has any advantage over a plug-in).
- Deleted the MPC plug-in
- Added MPC to Nullsoft DirectShow decoder configuration

Not really sure. I don't have the original mpc encoder sources yet and I've heard the author doesn't want to mux MPC into videos yet...
We'll try to find out as much as possible...

The encoder sources are PGPed "for selected persons only". I mailed Frank a while ago asking for the PGP key and a statement regarding the "no muxing of SV7 into videos"

We'll see - of course we'd like the job  B)

@rjamorim : Why should he get pissed? I wanted to listen to my MPC colection in my player

Just noticed : wrong duration of mpc files readed with WMP (6.4 and 8). A long file (15 minutes) is marked as 25 seconds (annoying for seeking) ; another (10 minutes) is three time shorter... Playback is fine (no break before end), but seeking is unusable.

Oh, the reason is exactly that of two sentences earlier.

I thought you guys wanted to put MPC into OGM or MKV.

I remember Frank was pretty strict about only using SV8 with video.

No worries then...

Makes me wonder why? Is there any specific reason for this?

P.S Feel free to mirror the RadLightMPC.exe @ rarewares

Well, to start with, probably because the encoder closed source.

Besides, you can't seek with it instantly (althoug seeking is very fast). That might lead to synchronization issues, and consequently headaches to Frank.

Well, he never told me the exact reasons, but i guess because he wanted to make sure SV7 has seen the end of its days, as he misliked some of the limitations of the SV7 framing, like the missing multi-channel support, etc.

I dont know his opinion on this subject right now, as we couldnt talk for a long time as he didnt reply on his usual email adress. I now have his new adress, thx to JohnV, and will start a conversation with him about the future of MPC in general, and also MPC in MKV in specific.

BTW, i never told you this ( ph3344ring the breath of the Klemminator in my neck  ), but if someone

- coded a real MPC DShow filter, with separated source ( async_reader ) and decoder filter

- specified a wFormat tag for MPC ( 0x0055 = MP3, 0x2000 = AC3, etc. )

- makes sure the source filter outputs valid timestamps

then even MPC SV7 could be used in MKV as of today, using the so-called 'ACM compatibility' mode of matroska  .....

Making a separate source and decoder was my original intension but I've decided that a single filter would be a better start.

A solo decoder would indeed rule.. but I'm not sure how many people would need to be involved not to break any compatibilities among programs/formats. There may also be other developers making an MPC decoder. We could possibly discuss this at some IRC.

IIRC:

SV8 = open-source decoder, closed-source encoder
SV7 = open-source encoder & decoder

But I could be wrong.  Searching now...

Edit:  Here's the thread I was thinking of.

Wrong.
Pre-SV8 encoder source are available since one year
SV7 encoder sources are still closed.

Frank said that he need to write or find an adequate licence for mpc encoder (if I remember correctly).

Sorry...my bad.

Is the Pre-SV8 encoder source what Garf meant by the alpha SV7 'and a half' version, I wonder?  (In this post.)

I don't know (probably yes).
pre-SV7 are labeled something like "SV 7.95".
Source are available on frank klemm site - executable on case's site.

This is a screenshot of my working directory SV8/src, not less and not more.

  - contains errors
  - uncomplete
  - missing and wrong comments
  - no warranties at all
  - buffer overflows are possible

It contains the source of the SV7.15 encoder and a decoder able to decode
files of the current SV7.15 encoder and all SV4...SV7 encoders.

- I recommend not to derive projects from this code.
- It is not allowed to use the trademark Musepack for derived work from this
  code.

Am I the only one who finds the word "vapour-ware" remarkably suitable for MPC SV8?
