CBR AAC Encoder

Hello. Which encoder can encode LC AAC at a wide range of bitrates and sample rates at CBR with high quality and FhG-MP3 like sound color? (I was tried FAAC and could not encode CBR.)

OK, this thing with sound colors has to stop.

Okay, so, can anyone give me an advice for a CBR AAC encoder that supports a wide range of bitrates and sample rates?

 fdkaac, qaac , neroaac

@shadowking I could not run qaac properly, is there a way to limit the frame sizes in fdkaac? (It should not use larger frames than the specified limit.)

fdkaac.exe  --help will tell you what you can do with the application.

What are you trying to achieve, why would you want to limit frame sizes?

@itisljar You will not like it, but I'm trying to get the "sound color" of FhG MP3. I feel like AAC's longer frames make the sound too "loose".

Have you tried to ABX anything against original lossless file?
Do you want high quality/transparency or sound that is different from original to get "sound color"?

@synclagz Yes, I did some ABX's in the past, but they are not useful in this case as I'm not targeting transparency.

Seems like [some kind of vst fx chain] may also serve you well.
"at CBR with high quality and FhG-MP3 like sound color" - your target audience, for that kind of question, that kind of encoder, specifically at HA, is the empty set. You do not see this? Really?

Indeed, you should stop searching "the bad quality encoder that is more to my liking".

Either process the original with sound effects that try to generate the sound you look for ( back on your low bitrate MP3 files, it was a kind of aliasing or exciter, similar to what SBR does but generated without prior information), and encode with a good encoder.

No, ABX original files and these aac with "loose" sound, whatever that may be.

Filesize is also important for me. And, I want a good quality encoder, why you assumed I want a bad quality encoder?

@itisljar I did it, and got 16/16. Here's the files: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16cTRYkU__VDOXD76a-UxRcRkLfHozZrr?usp=drive_link . Attr: Sound by nosoapradio.us .

You can also put it like this: among the worst codec settings, you are looking for one that is slightly less bad.

11025 Hz sample rate? You are losing audible parts by doing this. You don't want to hear all instruments/sounds?

Sampling rate and quality are seperate things.

Sampling rate and quality are seperate things.

This low sample rate (11025 Hz) is affecting quality because you simply can't get all audible sounds that are stored in original lossless file.

In my opinion, sampling rate does not directly affect quality. But, if you're using the same bitrate, higher sampling rate means lower quality. You have a different opinion and that's not a problem for me. Also, 11025Hz is a medium sampling rate for me.

In my opinion, you are an atom slightly outside the Schwarzschild radius of a supermassive black hole at the edge of the observable universe.
You are of course entitled to a different opinion, but they are all opinions and thus none are more wrong than the other.

A more relevant opinion is that TOS#8 has been inadequatly worded from the dawn of HA time.
