Foobar2000 v2.0_beta_13 cannot launch on Sergei Strelec's WinPE 10 x64, with an error "The remote procedure call failed"


However, v1.6x has no issues at all.

i.e. v2.0x requires Microsoft Store appxsvc and clipsvc services to be enabled and running.

Does Foobar2000 v2.x need to download something from Microsoft Store in order to run?

WinPE is a highly stripped-down Windows meant as a pre-install environment for deployment of a full version of Windows.  If 1.6 works with it, then stick with that.

I think my question was a more technical one, i.e. compared with 1.6x, what new features in 2.0x need to communicate with MS APPstore, especially it was installed as a portable utility.

If it requires appxsvc, how come it runs on Windows 7 (or Wine for that matter) just fine?
Please double check your facts before spreading nonsense.

Update: It looks like a manifest line related to sparse MSIX registration is triggering this problem - prevents foobar2000.exe from running at all.

Relevant line is a leftover from experiments with Windows 11 context menu and will be removed in the next beta. However, enabling Windows 11 context menu will require me to put it back and break it again. Additionally, other software actually implementing Windows 11 context menu will have the same problem.

Thanks. Glad to know the culprit was found by Zao. fb2k as a portable player on WinPE has its use when a user does not have the admin right on a full system.

Looking forwarding for an updated version. For future implementation of Windows 11 context menu, is it possible to disable it when the portable mode is enabled?

I simply reported what I encountered and tried to find out if others had the the problem. I have no skills to check if the information I found is accurate or not.

Update: v2 Beta 16 can run on WinPE 10 x64. Thanks, Peter.
