split m4a on chapters without converting or re-encoding?

I know that fb2k can split a file on chapters when converting to another format, e.g. converting to mp3. I would like to split a large m4a file that has chapters and keep it in m4a format, without re-encoding it. It would be convenient to be able to do both kinds of "conversion" within fb2k: splitting while converting to an different format, or splitting while retaining the original format (without re-encoding).

Have I simply overlooked a way to do this that is already in fb2k?

Thanks -- Mark F.

Tried mp3directcut?

fb2k's converter will decode and reencode. It is not a general "do things with files" functionality. Since mp3directcut can split by .cue from the command-line, it is possible that someone can give you a foo_run setup that works.

I'm assuming that your "m4a" contains AAC and not ALAC. If it is lossless, re-encoding isn't much of a problem. (And if so, you can use refalac, which can do the splitting & re-encoding.)

(And ... stay off Medieval Cue Splitter!)

Thx!

nu774 offers some good tools for chapter-/cue-splitting (... I'm a loyal CUETools user, but it only supports CDDA):
I only recently discovered that refalac also can split WavPack and FLAC files by cuesheets, provided it can find the wavpack/wvunpack/flac executables.
