Audio randomly lost after stopping or pausing

foobar has developed a really annoying habit: every so often, the audio goes out after I pause or stop playback so that I only hear silence when I resume playback. I have found that playing a file in Audacity foobar will fix the problem, but tonight even that failed; I had to pull the USB cable out of the back of the computer and plug it back in. Audacity uses the internal Realtek device, while foobar uses an external DAC. I've used this setup for years with no problem, so this bug is probably due to a recent Windoze update.
