Metadata for EAC - Better than MusicBrainz?

Freedb appears to have died on June 13th.

I upgraded EAC to 1.5, which defaults to the MusicBrains metadata plugin. In the few days I've used it, I've already encountered Unicode and more discs without metadata than I've seen in years. For me, freedb was more reliable and easier to edit.

What is better than MusicBrainz and works with EAC?

(without making claims of which is better) Other metadata options (some offered during installation) are
GD3 plugin (free 10 day trial - 1- time payment after trial)
CTDB plugin (CTDB stores replicated metadata from MusicBrainz, freedb and Discogs)
Built-in freedb engine (can be configured to access the freedb mirror database hosted by dbpoweramp)
I haven't seen other 3rd-party plugins offered but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

MusicBrainz supports HTTPS and not all of the mentioned alternatives do. That's an important advantage IMO.

Why is that an advantage? I'd see as advantage the corrections of wrong artists or titles, spelling and other things, not https, really, as it doesn't contribute to the quality of submissions.

Well, HTTPS, at the very least, greatly reduces the chance to occasionally get garbage data because ISP decided to inject ads into the content for example (may not be common in all countries but many ISPs in Russia are guilty of that)

HTTPS aside, and for EAC, is the GD3 plugin better than MusicBrainz in ease of editing and size of the database? Does it also function with foobar2000?

I've found creating edits for MusicBrainz to be somewhat Byzantine, the database smaller than that of freedb, and integration with EAC strictly one way.
