Windows Smart Screen (Beta 9)

I've Installed all the Previous Betas, but none of them ran into this problem.

You happened to be one of the first people with SmartScreen active to download the new beta. The feature shows the warning based on the file's reputation and for new files good reputation hasn't had time to accumulate yet. There would be a way to prevent it by buying an Extended Validation Code Signing Certificate. But those cost several hundred euros/dollars per year so not very oconomical for freeware.

We had code signing at one point, which was expected to suppress these warnings, and SmartScreen suddenly started treating us worse than they treated apps that had no signature whatsoever. Apparently it was StartCom fault to some extent.

We're working on getting foobar2000 published on the Microsoft Store, that will remove the need for maintaining code signing certificates on our side. My other player app, based on foobar2000 code is already there.

Windows Defender recognizes the file as Trojan.

It's a false positive and I have reported it to Microsoft. Will be interesting to see how fast they can fix their detection.

Because it is free and works so well, foobar2000 is obviously the product of subversive elements and must be dealt with, LOL.

If you run into SmartScreen errors, you can alternatively use an other browser (like FireFox or Chrome). As far as I know they don't use SmartScreen and have an other site reputation scheme (Safe Browsing) which also has the advantage that it works "off-line" so URL's are not sent to Microsoft.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.
