Loss of quality and distortion when inserting a wav file into cool edit pro

I'm having an issue with inserting wav files into the DAW I'm using, cool edit pro. I create these files on Maschine 2 software from Native Instruments and then insert them into Cool Edit Pro to mix them, however, some of these files get distorted and there's some static, not all files do this. When I play these files after being exported from Maschine 2 they sound completely fine, it's just once they are inserted into cool edit pro that the distortion occurs. Is anyone familiar with cool edit pro and knows how to adjust settings so that that when I insert the files they are converted correctly? Please help and thank you :) PS, I realize I'm using an outdated program, I purchased ProTools 12 last year but my laptop doesn't run it well, am currently saving for a better laptop!

Cool Edit Pro may not support floating point waveforms, so clipping could be applied permanently? I don't know, try its successor, Adobe Audition?

Do the 32-bit Maschine files distort immediately upon playback in CEPro* or after you've mixed a few tracks together?  If the latter, then you have created a combined waveform with too much volume and it is clipping.  Amplify all files by -6 dB before adding them together.  If still clipping, try -9 dB or more.  All files to be added should be reduced in volume the same amount; the more files to be added, the more you'll need to reduce their volume.  When you have your final mix completed you can amplify it up to full scale.

Also, make sure there are no effects or plugins running in CEPro.  These can cause unwanted results if not managed properly.

*If CEPro is unable to properly handle the 32-bit files, then try exporting the files from Maschine as 24-bit WAV.  Of course, the files you create in Maschine need not to already be clipped or you'll just be moving garbage over into CEPro.

CE Pro has IME always accepted and saved Floating Point audio if thet is what you ask it to do, iles and uses Floating Point  audio files internally.  There is a setting for the format used for mixing and you jave to check it out to make sure that it is set to a Floating Point format, if that is what you want.

I find the discipline of working in a fixed point format to be comfortable. To avoid clipping, simply set the channel gains so that you avoid clipping.

As others have pointed out, if you mix several files together, it is a natural possibility that their sum will exceed FS.  Exceeding FS only causes clipping in CEP  if you save the file to a FP format or have its multitrack view set to a Fixed Point format.
