Direct Play Lossless Files From PC to Smart TV

Hi,

I want to find a media server that will steam (direct play without transcoding) my flac files and possibly other lossless formats from my PC (Windows 7 64 Bit) to my Samsung Smart TV (UA60H6300 60). Streaming to my phone and iPad would be a bonus.

My Samsung TV plays FLAC natively from USB

I use Plex at the moment but it transcodes FLAC.

I tried Universal Media Server, but it quits after 1 track.

Samsung SmartView 2.0 allows me to fling a lossless file to my TV. It works but it's clunky.

I just found a lossless Streaming Cloud service (Qobuz) that I think will allow you to upload your own audio, but it's only available in France. Not yet in Australia.

I am surprised to find no definitive answers out there on streaming lossless without transcoding. All I can see is Airplay streams Apple Lossless, which I will look into after I have exhausted other options.

I would love a PLEX style interface and mobile apps, just one that streams lossless formats.

Cheers

Not my first choice of media player.  I'm more interested in sending out ATSC signals through cable wire to other rooms in the house than streaming media but that isn't happening with all the layers of DRM present in devices.  Which is against the TOS to talk about anyway.

Toughie for sure.  My guess is what you might be asking for might not be entirely possible at the moment in all cases and a waste of bandwidth in cases where it's a major concern.

Use of LAN or WiFi will be more productive than sticking it on an external server type of service.

I experimented with the idea and tried a few different things before but ultimately scrapped it in favor of more on location type setup.

A USB SD Card reader or large capacity flash drive would help with the smart TV.  As for the mobile phone and tablet stuff that's a different thing.

I just use a dedicated portable digital audio player that I take with me as needed.  Your TV might even let browse through it, depending on what it supports.

Someone here will certainly have a better answer for you and might be more of help to you.

Serviio allows you to setup profiles for devices and comes with rather a lot of them built in.

Does the tv support upnp/dlna?

Then you could use foobar2000 with the corresponding plugin and transcoding turned off.

Stpuid questions do not exist.

I use universal media server. I use it mostly for videoclips rather than music, but I also play music from time to time.

Do I undestand it correctly that universal media server closes after one song? That's not an expected scenario. I would check the logs to see if it chokes with some file, or what.

And if it is for audio only, the suggestion of using foobar might work.

My Samsung plasma from 2012 supports DLNA and it is running an older version of software on their (2014) LED so I imagine it has DLNA support.  I was getting conflicting information from different online stores (some said yes, others said no) but the latest version of Samsung's online user manual (even the first version with the older software) states that their TV supports DLNA.  The instructions for setting it up (though it should be enabled by default) are available in the online manual.

JRiver Media Center's DLNA server lets you choose how or if to downsample/transcode audio sent to the TV.

I went to JRiver Media Center and I've never looked back. Plays flc without transcoding. I use JREMOTE on my iPad and iPhone to cue music on my Home Theatre. Works like a charm.
