Play/Pause Key Support

Hello everyone.

This is my first post to these forums and I seek assistance. I switched over to Foobar2000 from WinAmp only a few months ago. It's an amazing player, but I have never gotten my media play/pause key to work.

To start out, the keyboard I use is a rather oldish Logitech Internet 350. Nothing fancy at all, just a simple keyboard with simple media keys, no special drivers, no additional software there to run it.

The problem I have is that the Play/Pause doesn't work quite right. When I press it, nothing happens. Nothing at all. BUT! When I hold SHIFT/ALT/CTRL keys, it works.
When I go into Keyboard Shortcuts menu, when I want to make a shortcut, nothing also shows under "Key" when I press the media play button by itself,

but once again, if I hold any of those 3 afromentioned keys, it shows this (depending on which key it is, ALT, SHIFT or CTRL):

I don't have any other software that could interact or change how my keys work. Nor any keyboard drivers other than Windows 7 defaults.

How do I fix the problem so
A) The Play/Pause key works by itself
and
B) Play/Pause key works globally

I had a similar problem.

Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs

and  select foobar2000  , then set this program to default  .

My media keys then worked with foobar2000.

I did this, it set all defaults to Foobar2000, but nothing changed regarding my problem. And yes, I only have 1 foobar2000 installation on my computer.

First make sure you selected "set this program to default" and not "choose defaults for this program".

Then
go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs

go to Set Program Access and Computer defaults.

Select Custom

Choose a default media player.

Make sure "Use my current media player" is selected. and not winamp or something else....

edit: also reset page for Keyboard shortcuts( in Foobar2000)

setting the default program should not affect the behaviour of media keys at all. if you have a button to actually open the program then it would affect that.

in my experience, playback controls just works on the last player that had focus. my own keyboard has 4 media keys (play/pause, stop, previous, next) and works perfectly with foobar. but if i open vlc then that "steals" the focus from foobar and the keys operate that. but if i then click on foobar in the taskbar so it's the "active" window again, the controls work in foobar.

if i only have 1 media player open then of course the keys works globally and it doesn't matter what other apps i'm using. even playing full screen games, my media keys operate foobar exactly as i would expect.

i can't say what is causing the OPs problem but i guess it's the combination of keyboard/drivers/OS???
