Youtube Source - streaming Live channels, not working

Hello

The Youtube Source component stopped streaming live channels. It used to work fine, I believe the problem started with the latest version 3.9.6.
When I add a live youtube link, it tries to open the link and after a minute or so it gives the error
Code: [Select]
Unable to open item for playback (Youtube Source: foo_youtube: Stream not found | ffmpeg: Stream not found | foobar2000: Unsupported file format):

Thanks

Hi,
the description of the component says that it can play Dailymotion. I can paste the url to the "add location" but is it possible to search via "view/youtube source/search on site" just like from Youtube? When I tried that way it did not find anything from Dailymotion.

foo_youtube_3.9.6 - Server returned 403 Forbidden (access denied)

For the past few days, I've been getting the following message when I try to download a file from YouTube with foo_youtube_3.9.6

Source: "www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mg0wKRmtgs"
Unable to open source file: Youtube Source: foo_youtube: server error (403) from rr2---sn-cp1oxu-q2ns.googlevideo.com | ffmpeg: Server returned 403 Forbidden (access denied) | foobar2000: Forbidden (403)
Conversion failed: Youtube Source: foo_youtube: server error (403) from rr2---sn-cp1oxu-q2ns.googlevideo.com | ffmpeg: Server returned 403 Forbidden (access denied) | foobar2000: Forbidden (403)

Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

Thank you :-)

I can confirm. Some of the videos from which I download the audio give this error. I just updated to foo_youtube_3.9.6 but I have also seen this before off late. I have been mostly away from my PC for the last 1,5 weeks and I cannot be more specific.

Edit. In case developer is following this thread I can post links that will work normally and links that get the 403.

Thank you. I tried the nightly but no dice. I went back to the stable version of yt-dlp to find that one video that I knew to be working is no longer working.

Weird. Still works here with yt-dlp 2025.01.15.

Can't play here either, same error. I came here because I tried all other fixes I could come up with first - addding new cookies, checked different dercoding methods but the error suggests its not even getting to the decoding and testing internal and external yt-dl.exe and since I saw above, I also got yt-dlp.exe and enabled it in maintenance but it is definitely not working, error details are below

Unable to open item for playback (Youtube Source: foo_youtube: server error (403) from rr1---sn-u5a3u5a3-h5oes.googlevideo.com | ffmpeg: Server returned 403 Forbidden (access denied) | foobar2000: Forbidden (403)):

one other thing, it does actually work with this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8A9Y1Dq_cQ yet not others, I tried about 15 in total and couldn't find another that works.

thanks for any help

Same error here:
Unable to open item for playback (Youtube Source: foo_youtube: server error (403) from rr3---sn-i5h7lnll.googlevideo.com | ffmpeg: Server returned 403 Forbidden (access denied) | foobar2000: Forbidden (403)):

was working fine last month with the same version of this plugin.

After reading some of the previous posts I got it to work after
  • downloading yt-dlp.exe
putting it in the folder C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\foobar2000-v2\foo_youtube
and adding a path in the preferences dialog plus modifying some of the other settings - see screen shot

Thank you. I played with the Prefer youtube=dl over internal analyzer setting. It stopped the 403 message but now songs simply stop after 3, 4, 5 or 6 seconds. This happens both with the stable version of yt-dl and the nightly. This behavior shows both on Windows 11 stable (22631.4751) and Windows 11 beta Insider (22635.4800)  Scratches head.

I'm using yt-dlp instead of youtube-dl and it works for me on Windows 10.

I am also using yt-dl. Youtube-dl was discontinued in 2021.

I tried the latest nightly build 2025.01.23.232810 but it does not make the problem go away.

Re: foo_youtube

Damn... and I assume you have the API Key set and LAV filters installed... My YouTube Source page looks exactly like the one posted by minimaster. Try with a portable version in another windows 11 and 10 to discard is something internal to foobar2000.

Re: foo_youtube

Excellent, I setup YTP-DL exactly as minimaster showed in his picture and it is working, it takes a few moments longer to open but still, as long as it does work then i'm very happy.

I didn't think to change the other options for location and the tick for prefer youtube-dl over internal analyzer and only changed the options on top of the right click box for "External".. thanks very, very much.

** Also using foo_youtube -only- as the decoder I have videos in sync, which I haven't had for ages so thats awesome as well. **

If you still get the error, try the following:

Enter cmd in the address bar of the folder where yt-dlp.exe is located.
The command prompt will start. Enter (copy and paste) the following. The download will start. It will be downloaded into the same folder as yt-dlp.exe.

yt-dlp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB_CuFcJyXI

If the download is successful, you can delete the video. Now try it on Youtube Source (foo_youtube).

I can also report experiencing 403 errors. I hope this component is updated shortly, historically whenever I've had problems like this with foo_youtube I've also noticed a component update was available that would immediately fix it.

Wouldn't Reply #1642/1643 solve the problem?

In the "Video" tab, I have the "Prevent display turn off while video is playing" option checked, but when playing a video, the screen still goes out after a while.
I would like the screen to stay on, when playing a video using foo_youtube, but turn off when playing regular audio files. Is this possible?

Re: foo_youtube

@DVS

Preferences > Tools > Youtube Source > Video > Playback tab > Common
"Prevent display turn off while video is playing" It is checked by default.

It doesn't matter if it's ON or OFF, just change the Playlist and double-click the Track.

Is this not the problem?

Are the settings the same?

Are you using an environment where YouTube videos can be played clearly with foobar2000?

Is it the latest one?

Yes, the problem is that when the option is enabled, the screen still turns off.
The settings are the same as in the link. Yt-dlp and LAV filter the latest and YouTube videos are played.

It's not entirely clear. Do I need to enable (or disable), then change the playlist and start any track? I did this, but the screen still turns off.

No, I don't mess with standards.

Obviously, something is wrong.
