iTunes LAME Problem

Hi there...

My rather elderly Mac (comparitively speaking) is a PowerBook G4.  It is largely useless for modern programmes and Internet use but it is very good at audio work, which is my specialisation, really.  I discovered about ten years ago that iTunes native encoded mp3s sounded rough to my ears.  iTunes LAME came to the rescue and I use nothing else for making mp3s.

However, there is a problem which I repeatedly have when installing iTunes LAME for use with iTunes, a problem I seem to have every other time that I do a fresh re-install of both programmes on this computer.

I have had it working perfectly after about half of the installations.  On about the other half of the installations the way that the file naming and storing is accomplished gets messed up:  instead of a track coming out as 01 track 01.mp3 it comes out somethig like 00. 01 track 01.mp3.  Every track gets an initial "00." ahead of the track name.  Also, instead of a being put for instance in folders named "Unknown Album" or "Unknown Artist" they appear in folders similarly named with an initial "~" - i.e. "~Unknown Album".

Does anyone know what has happened, why only on some installation occasions and not others, and how to rectify it?  I have tried to Google it but can find nothing useful.

Thank you...
