How to install Columns UI?

Hello all

I have been a user of foobar for many years and forgive my frustration but I just installed foobar 1.2.9 from 1.2.6 and I cannot figure anything out. First of all where is the columns ui component. I downloaded it from the website and and I cannot install it because the file type isn't fb2k? but I see people using it with 1.2.9?

Am I wrong? I saved the theme file from previous installs so I'm a bit confused.

I have a host of other issues that I have ignored for too long and I hope to have some answers now but one thing at a time

Thank You for your patience and sorry for not breach in etiquette it is not intentional by any means. My coffee maker broke today so allow me some leeway.

Follow the instructions in the official FAQ, adding a step where you type * into the filename box and press Enter to show non-fb2k-component files. Or just drag the zip or DLL into the list of components in the Preferences.

^columns UI isn't quite so straight forward because it comes as a 7z archive. you'll need a 3rd party archive extractor (like 7zip/winrar/etc)  to get the dll out first.

Apologizes for jumping from high, but I believe none from above answers will help OP nor any one browsing this thread title.

I have brief Columns UI experience and I think it's really great component that didn't survive some politics.
All help is on musicmusic's portal that's still alive but maybe not that accessible as expected, and having question how to set things up this is fine lead according me: http://yuo.be/wiki/columns_ui:manual

Why not? The OP asked how to install the component. We explained. What’s missing?

Yes, your link is good. But that doesn’t mean the previous replies are somehow totally irrelevant as you’re implying.

Dear db1989, I didn't mean to imply that your and marc's posts are irrelevant, in fact they are overlapping nicely, and I think that if one compiles all you posts on this forum he/she will get pretty neat and sublime explanations for many things not so so obvious to regulars.

I was just driven by the thread title, and wanted to provide more close information

Peace

I probably misread. And your post was very good and relevant, and it could certainly take the OP further than our very specific answers.

I know how to extract files using WinRAR but the file extension is .dll as we all know and I go to preferences - components - install and go to the correct folder and of course there is nothing there that Foobar recognizes so what's next?

[edit] this is in reply to OP action, I hope my humor is taken right

Hope this helps which applies to current foobar20000 AFAIK,

Installation

Extract foo_ui_columns.7z, using a suitable decompressor (such as 7-Zip or WinRAR) to the Components sub-directory of your foobar2000 directory.
Start foobar2000, and select Columns UI in the User Interface Module Selection dialog that appears.
    Click OK.

but in case it doesn't I sure you'll get more detailed replies.

Okay I failed to read the entire FAQ. I dragged! the .dll file into the install window and restarted it and presto! there it is. Thank you for your patience and not yelling at me as I have seen rude people do when dealing with tech questions. I do consider myself experienced but sometimes it just frustrates me and so here I am.

While I have your attention a small issue for me, Why is it that when I click on a mp3 file (for example I just downloaded a podcast) and I happen to have a playlist highlighted in foobar and when I click on that mp3 file I just downloaded the tracks in the playlist are gone forever and I have to redo the entire thing. answer me that or should I post this question elsewhere.

No need. It has been asked and answered many, many times already.

Preferences > Shell integration > Set "Enqueue" as the default action and/or Always send new files to playlist

But anyway, when Play is the default action and hence the playlist is cleared by the incoming file(s), the old tracks are by no means “gone forever”. Just undo through the Edit menu or Ctrl+Z.

Thanks for that last hint, now all I need to do make the player dark instead of the silver theme i have now. Too bad it isn't a standard feature to alter the player's color without 3rd party skins
