xxMigrated to a new forum system

24 December, 2015, 04:56:46 AM by kode54 | Views: 11621 | Comments: 240

I have gone to a great effort to port the existing forum (as of the 20th) to another forum script, to see how well it functions. The temporary forums may be found here:

https://argonaural.io/

If general consensus is that this is a suitable replacement, even with all the conversion errors in place (bloody IPB BBcode mess with nested tags) then the forums may be taken offline for at least a day to freeze them before a final migration.

Also, here is a Git repository containing my changes to the default theme, in case anyone wants to help with actual code contributions and not just words.

https://github.com/kode54/hydrogenaudio-elkarte-theme

E: The migration is now complete. I hope everyone enjoys it, at least somewhat. Most of you will need to recover your passwords using your email accounts.

The server has now been moved to a new VM slice, and is live at https://hydrogenaud.io

xxOpus 1.1.1 is out

26 November, 2015, 03:36:11 PM by jmvalin | Views: 13068 | Comments: 64

After much waiting, Opus 1.1.1 is finally here. The main changes are:
  • x86 SSE, SSE2 and SSE4.1 optimizations contributed by Cisco,
  • MIPS optimizations contributed by Imagination Technologies,
  • ARM Neon optimizations contributed by Linaro and ARM,
  • many architecture-independent optimizations,
  • memory footprint reductions, and
  • several minor bug fixes.

The quality of the encoder should be mostly unchanged compare to version 1.1. The code is available from the downloads page at: http://www.opus-codec.org/downloads/ or at: http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/opus/opus-1.1.1.tar.gz

In other news, we're currently working on improving low bit-rate quality (< 48 kb/s) for both speech and music. Stay tuned.

xxChromecast Audio

30 September, 2015, 04:58:19 PM by rajas | Views: 19545 | Comments: 90

Google released a new version of their Chromecast hardware today dedicated to audio.

From the website:
Quote
Chromecast Audio is a small device that plugs into your speaker for streaming music over Wi-Fi. Once set up, simply use your iPhone®, iPad®, Android phone or tablet, Mac® or Windows® laptop or Chromebook to cast your favourite tunes to the best speakers in the house.
Speaker inputs supported: RCA, 3.5 mm, Optical

Supports an optional Guest mode that lets nearby guests cast without joining your WiFi network.
Multiroom casting (like Sonos) is expected in a future update.
Casting music from a Windows PC is apparently possible using third party software like AirParrot.
